AustralianFootball.com Celebrating the history of the great Australian game
The Magpies have generally struggled of late, although they did manage to reach a grand final in 2014. Overall, however, the club’s post war record is excellent, with the senior side claiming a total of nine premierships in three different competitions. The earliest of these came in 1957 in the Mornington Peninsula Football League, and it was promptly followed by a second in succession. During the 1960s Crib Point transferred to the Nepean Football League in which it procured a hat trick flags between 1966 and 1968. Two further triumphs followed in the 1970s, with a sixth and final NFL premiership coming in 1985.
The 1987 season saw the NFL and MPFL amalgamating to form the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League. The Magpies struggled for a time in their new surroundings, and did not manage to qualify for a grand final until 1999, when they lost by 11 points to Berwick. A second grand final appearance followed two years later, with Pearcedale providing the opposition, and this time Crib Point was victorious by a resounding 77 point margin, 23.10 (148) to 10.11 (71).
After coming fourth in 2004 the Magpies endured a mediocre time for the next few seasons before gradually reasserting themselves. In 2014, as intimated above, they reached the Nepean Division grand final but lost to Sorrento by 58 points. This was followed by five disappointing seasons when they finished well off the pace, including a wooden spoon in 2018.
